In Philippians 1:23, Paul says that he desires “to depart and be with Christ.” In 2 Corinthians 5:6-8, he says that to be away from the body is to be at home with the Lord. In the same chapter, he speaks of the present body as a tent and of longing to be with Christ. How are we to understand these words? Does this mean that he looks forward to his soul being freed from his body?
