Beginning with the 2023 Annual Meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The governing body has announced a flurry of changes to doctrines and policies affecting the lives of their members. Many of these changes admittedly have been the result of re-examining biblical texts and coming to a clearer understanding of God’s will. Thus, witnesses are now, for the first time in decades permitted to use their Bible trained conscience to dress and groom themselves and to have contact with those disfellowshipped from the organization. But this raises an important question: If they have to wait for the governing body’s permission to exercise their conscience, is it truly Bible trained?
